St Ronans News

January and February 2020

 Happy New Year 2020

to everyone who’s part of our St Ronans family!

January – St Ronans is about loving nature and celebrating Burns night!

We’ve packed away the chaos of Christmas and we’re now thinking about English wildlife this January. We’ll be making fat cakes for the birds and brushing up on our knowledge of the animal kingdom through quizzes and more.

At the end of the month we will be having our own party for Burns night. Please look out for posters with more information closer to the time.

February – St Ronans’ Oscars and a Tom Loveday special performance!

During the first week of February we’ll be celebrating the silver screen in style – ahead of the 92nd Academy Awards in Hollywood. We’ll be watching our favourite films and we’ll also hold the 2nd St Ronans Oscars, compared by our very own dazzling film star, Trixie! More details to follow.

On Valentine’s Day, there will be a special performance by our very own Tom Loveday!

2020 – Sparkly activities for everyone at St Ronans

Throughout the year, you’ll see more of our much-loved themed celebrations. We’ll continue to advertise these and we’d love for you to join us. This year, we’re also really excited about our new (and improved!) weekly and monthly schedule (see opposite). This is still a work in progress as we are going to be working with everyone here at St Ronans to really add even more sparkle to our home. If you have any feedback or ideas about how we could do this and make St Ronans an even better place for you or your loved ones, please do come and find one of the team and let us know, or email:  caroline.hopkins@st-ronans.co.uk

Private activities

Personal sessions can be arranged for residents who prefer a bit more privacy. Most of the below activities can be available on request in a private lounge (if available) or in their own rooms. Family and friends are more than welcome to join in. Please speak to the life support team to make a booking. If you would like to pursue an activity or hobby that is not yet provided let us know and we will do our best to accommodate.

Regular weekly activities

Monday and Wednesday mornings: Hair with Leah

Your own personal hairdresser and stylist, Leah, is here to work wonders for you. She can wash, cut and style or even give you the perfect perm. A great chance to have some well-deserved pampering that will make you feel a million dollars. Ladies and gents welcome.

Tuesday mornings: Vitalyz exercise in the main lounge

Sally from Vitalyz holds an exercise class every Tuesday morning in the main lounge. Sally specialises in seated physical activity. Please come and join us, you’ll have so much fun it won’t feel like exercise at all!

Tuesday afternoons: Craft with Caroline

Either one to one or in group sessions you can create all sorts of crafty magic with Caroline no matter your ability as there are no limits. You get to keep what you make too!

Thursday lunchtime: Seaside and chips coach trip!

Take a trip to the seafront with us, weather permitting. Our driver Sue gives an amazing personalised experience, and our residents can enjoy taking in the sites… We’ll also stop for a picnic or some fish and chips.

Monday and Thursday afternoons: Quiz in the main lounge

At St Ronans we love a challenge and a chance to exercise our little grey cells. That’s why we host our very own and much-loved quizzes twice weekly. They are specially designed for our residents to help them reminisce and interact socially in a comfortable environment.

Wednesday afternoons: Cooking with Trixie

Bake your very own tasty treats with Trixie… and then eat them! These are stimulating and fun sessions that help enable our residents to gain some independence (as well as a few pounds…).

Friday afternoons: Singing and exercise in the main lounge

We all love a good sing along so here at St Ronans we have designed a light exercise programme that incorporates the chance to sing along to all our old favourites from the 1940’s onwards whilst doing a bit of seated exercise to music.

Afternoon clubs:

Including a variety of clubs in place of the above activities:

First Wednesday afternoon of every month:

Indoor gardening club

Last Wednesday afternoon of every month:

Wine and cheese tasting club

Watch this space for new upcoming clubs…

A special note from our Trixie

In the last two months leading up to Christmas 🎄 we have had lots of fun days and particularly with our percussion band instruments during our singing activities and our own carol singing ... thankfully the noise almost drowned out our singing but the residents loved it!

John Burton and his wonderful Salvation Army band came on 8th December as always and played for us with carols and prayers which was SO uplifting... a wonderful start to our Christmas month ~ sadly not many trips out for our picnics as the rain always seemed at its worst on a Thursday!

The Carousel pantomime Dick Whittington was brilliant and much enjoyed by all x~ Father Christmas 🎄 came as usual… sang some songs and gave out presents ..everyone LOVED him ... thank you SO much dear Mike for your time and kindness

Huge thanks to our lovely relatives and friends for your ongoing kindness throughout the year and over Christmas with biscuits sweets and cakes and just your ongoing support ... you help to make St Ronans a very special place for us all. Wishing you all good health blessings in abundance and special moments in 2020.

With my love and hugest hugs from Trixie xx
